A song I wrote after listening to many frustrated ramblings about America and its issues. Can be considered sociopolitical commentary, but I left it open-ended so you can draw your own conclusions.
You used to think yourself the hero
And that the world revolved for you
With your charm and skill and strength
There was nothing you couldn’t do…
Because you were so strong
You could right any wrong
There’s nothing broken that you couldn’t repair
But then things don’t go right
It’s more than just a fright
And life just seems so very unfair
It hurts more than your pride
And there’s nowhere to hide
All of a sudden you have something to fear
So you say, “no more!”
You’re rushing into a war
With your hands clamped over your ears
And you will never see
How things have come to be
Put on your sunglasses and look at the sun
You know that you’re the best
To rise above the rest
Say, where’d you hide that smoking gun?
It hurts more than your pride
And there’s nowhere to hide
All of a sudden you have something to fear
So you say, “no more!”
You’re rushing into a war
With your hands clamped over your ears
Maybe,
If you don’t care then it will not matter
Maybe,
If you don’t listen he will not talk
Maybe,
If you hold it high then it will not shatter
Maybe,
If you beat him down then he will not walk
And you still have no shame
You’re not the one to blame
And you tell everyone it’s none of your fault
This is your way to show
That you won’t let it go
Anywhere else it’d be considered assault
You think that you’re correct
That you deserve respect
That your ideas make you number one
This is the end, you say
You start to walk away
But in reality it’s just begun
It hurts more than your pride
And there’s nowhere to hide
All of a sudden you have something to fear
So you say, “no more!”
You’re rushing into a war
With your hands clamped over your ears
Forget about it for a moment
Forget about it for a year
Forget about it forever
And you’ll never shed a tear…
